The British Conservative Party is putting together a review group on creative industries. Shadow culture secretary Jeremy Hunt said the review would "look beyond" the government's Digital Britain report which he reckons to be "strong on analysis but so far weak on action". "There is a real opportunity for our creative industries to lead Britain out of the recession – but only if government are prepared to deliver on their rhetoric. With music, film, video games and TV industries in the top three worldwide, now is the chance to turn Britain into the world's creative and digital hub”, Hunt said.

Former BBC director general Greg Dyke is to chair the review group, which is due to report in autumn. The group brings together people from different creative industries among which ex-Sky executive Elisabeth Murdoch, Carphone Warehouse's Charles Dunstone, Brent Hoberman, Lastminute.com's co-founder and Lucian Grainge, chairman and chief executive of Universal Music Group International. They are supposed to look into how to sustain investment in UK content in the digital age, stimulate investment in next-generation broadband, create sustainable local media and ensure there is a skilled workforce.
